04/03/2010 - West Sands target China for growth

British businessman and entrepreneur Paul Mercer has announced plans to take his West Sands Resort brand to China.

West sands, located on Mai Khao beach on the north west coast of Phuket, is jointly owned by Paul Mercer and Sir Terry Leahy, the CEO of Tesco supermarkets.

The development which officially launched in late 2006 provides a range of properties from one bedroom apartments to six bedroom beachfront villas and is also the location of Thailand's largest water park, Splash Jungle.

West sands is currently completing phase three of their development which will add several more restaurants, a dive centre and a mini golf course.  On completion in late 2011 the resort will offer over nine hundred keys and be Phuket's largest resort.

West Sands Finance Director, Kriangsak Prateepvisut, now Mr Mercer's most senior manager, stated in an interview yesterday, "West Sands have plans for two properties inside China that will be similar to West Sands Phuket and include waterparks, but both properties will be twice the size of the Phuket resort,"

We look forward to working with West Sands to market their new development - contact us for more details.
